A writer is a person who uses written words in different styles and techniques to communicate ideas. Writers produce different forms of literary art and creative writing such as novels, short stories, books, poetry, plays, screenplays, teleplays, songs, and essays as well as reports and news articles. - See Wikipedia

To assist those who are budding authors, as well as those who are life long students of the literary arts, ‘Artists Aflame’ have identified the following selected links to literary arts organizations and their web sites that you might want to explore further:

  • Academy of American Poets - The Academy is a champion of American poets and poetry. Its mission is to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to help foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry.

  • Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) - The AWP provides community, opportunities, ideas, news, and advocacy for writers and teachers of writing.

  • The Center for Fiction - The Center helps to support the exciting work of early-career writers, in addition to inspiring a passion for literature in children.

  • Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) - Composed of editors, writers, indexers, proofreaders, researchers, desktop publishers, translators, and others who offer a broad range of skills and specialties.

  • National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) & Literary Arts Programs - The NEA helps writers create new works and then connect with audiences through publishers and other literary arts organizations.

  • Poetry Society of America (PSA) - The Society’s mission is to build a larger, more diverse audience for poetry and to encourage a deeper appreciation of the vitality and breadth of poetry in cultural conversation.

  • Poets & Writers Foundation (PW) - The Foundation’s mission is to foster the professional development of poets and writers, to promote communication throughout the literary community, and to help create an environment in which literature can be appreciated by the public.

  • Sociey of Children Book Writers & Illustrators - An international professional organization for authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults.

  • Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) - The Guild is composed of the thousands of writers who write the television shows, movies, news programs, documentaries, animation, videogames and new media content that keep audiences constantly entertained and informed.

  • Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) - The Guild represents thousands of members who write content for motion pictures, television, news and digital media. The Guild also negotiates and administers contracts that protect the creative and economic rights of its members.

In addition to being visual artists or photographers, several members of our family of 'Artists Aflame' are also published authors of fiction and non-fiction articles and books, e.g. Peter Groen and Jaime Bernhardt.
